Can you believe July is just around the corner? For a lot of people, that means Fourth of July celebrations, cookouts, and time with family out on the lake! We want to highlight all of the things Grand Rapids has to offer, so here are some things happening this weekend.
1. If you’re looking for something to do in downtown GR, the Grand Rapids Fireworks will be presented by Soaring Eagle Casino at Ah-Nab-Awen Park on July 3rd. The entire celebration starts at 6pm and consists of family activities and games, food trucks, artisans/vendors, and some local live entertainment. All of this will lead to the firework show at 10:30pm! It will be a truly sparkling day full of fun and activity.
2. Want to be at the beachfront? Head over to Saugatuck & Douglas for fireworks off the water at dusk. Fun fact: “Midwest Living magazine ranked Saugatuck/Douglas #5 on its list of top vacation destinations in the U.S. The National Trust for Historic Preservation selected it as one of the “Dozen Distinctive Destinations” in the U.S” says Experience GR. What better way to spend the holiday than soaking up some sun and enjoying the distinctive destination?
If you’re into parades, Saugatuck has one downtown at 11am. Bring some water and some bags, there will be plenty of candy for the kiddos.
3. If you love art and history, the GRAM (Grand Rapids Art Museum) is featuring an American Folk Art Exhibit until the end of August. The exhibit will feature 80 American folk art objects such as paintings, pottery, quilts, needlework, and sculptures. It’s a great opportunity to take a look into American art and see the history behind each piece. What is more patriotic than that?
4. If you and your family love holiday runs, there will be a Freedom Run Grand Rapids Race at 8am on July 4th! You’ll start on a paved trail at Rouge River Park and run on the White Pine Trail. You’ll have the opportunity to run a 5k, 10k, or half marathon. For more information and to sign up, click here.
The Lucas Howard Group hopes that whatever it is you decide to do this weekend, keep Grand Rapids in mind. As always, stay safe and have fun! Remember that even though our country is free, we still have to fight for every human and demographic to be treated that way. Here’s to building equality everyday. Let us know what you’re up to in the comments!
