As growing seasons come to an end farmers markets start to close. This year they’ll start closing around the end of October. So make sure you drop by a few before you miss your chance!
Farmers markets are known for not only housing a place for you to get farm to table food, but also for giving small businesses a chance to show you what they make. I’ve gone to quite a few farmers markets in my life and in each one I find new little trinkets. Once I found a necklace that was made out of ethically sourced deer antlers.
Besides jewelry and home grown fruits and vegetables farmers markets have a multitude of different booths, I’ve seen homemade soaps, pies, even flower arrangements. Anything you would want you can basically find.
A few of the markets in grand rapids will be closing either mid October or at the end of October. On Tuesdays the Ada Farmers Market on Thornapple River Drive is open from 9am until 2pm until October 26th. It was given the Silver Townie Award for “Best Farmers Market” after only three years of being in business. It offers a “Kids in the Market” program that has new activities practically every week, as well as live musicians almost every week. On Wednesdays and Saturdays the Grand Haven Farmers Market on Harbor Drive opens up from 8am to 1 pm until October 30th. Make sure you keep up with their Facebook and Instagram where they post upcoming events, including the last “Wednesday at the market”, hosted on October 13th. They will still continue to have markets on Saturdays until the 30th.
The Middleville Farmers Market at the Middleville Community Pavilion on Fridays from 3pm to 7pm until October 15th, it boasts a large array of fresh foods and artisan booths for your eating and viewing pleasure. On Saturdays the Byron Center Farmers Market is open from 9am to 1pm until October 30th. It holds many different booths behind the library at the Byron Center, including multiple bakery stands that have take home pastries. The Caledonia Farmers Market is on Saturdays on the corner of M-97 and 100th street from 9am to 1pm until October 30th. Just like every other farmers market here it holds a wondrous amount of food and trinket stands, so make sure you go before it closes. The Fulton Farmers Market is located on Fulton Street East and is open Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 8am to 2pm until October 30. However this market will reopen on November 6th until April 30th every Saturday 10am to 1pm for its second season, so even though it reopened for the winter months you better go before some of the fresh produce isn’t available anymore.
Make sure you go see these markets before they close for the season. Each one boasts a large array of interesting and delicious confections for you to check out, just make sure you adhere to covid guidelines and have fun!
