Holiday season is here, the Lucas Howard Group is lighting up Grand Rapids with a heartwarming initiative to spread love and awareness during the 4 Weeks of Christmas. A few years back, our dear friend Sarah launched the #EAS Blanket Drive in a unique effort to not only keep bodies warm but also to warm the hearts of those struggling with mental health challenges.

The #EAS Blanket Drive encourages community members to make a tangible difference in the lives of others. The #EAS Blanket Drive is not just about keeping warm; it’s about wrapping our community in a blanket of love and support. This year, the visionary behind this heartwarming initiative, Sarah, has a special plan for the blankets collected. In the spirit of the season, she will be personally gifting these blankets to patients at Pine Rest, a place where warmth extends beyond the physical.
Sarah believes that the power of a simple gesture, like receiving a cozy blanket along with words of encouragement, can transcend the boundaries of familiarity. Through her efforts, those at Pine Rest will feel the embrace of love from blankets gifted by someone they may never meet. It’s a reminder that, even from a distance, our actions can touch the lives of others and create connections that go beyond the tangible.
By participating in the #EAS Blanket Drive, you’re not only contributing to physical comfort but also becoming a part of a larger movement to spread love and kindness. Join Sarah and the Lucas Howard Group in making a difference in the lives of those at Pine Rest, letting them know that, even from afar, they are valued and cared for.
Here’s how you can contribute:
1) Find a Blanket
Search your closets or head to a local store to find a cozy blanket. Consider the warmth it will provide and the comfort it can bring to someone in need.
2) Write Words of Encouragement
Take a moment to write words of encouragement on a note. These could be uplifting quotes, messages of hope, or simply letting someone know they are not alone.
Here are some good encouragement messages.
3) Attach the Note Inside the Blanket
Secure the note inside the folds of the blanket, creating a personal touch that will surely bring a smile to someone’s face.
4) Drop Off at Lucas Howard Group’s Office
The drop-off location is conveniently located at 4804 Cascade Rd SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. There are designated bins available for your blanket donations. The office is open from 8 am to 8 pm, and the deadline for drop-offs is January 5th.
Throughout this blog post, it’s crucial to highlight the gravity of the issue. According to recent Michigan suicide reports data, the state has witnessed a concerning increase in suicide rates. This emphasizes the urgency of addressing mental health issues and fostering a supportive community.
In addition to participating in the #EAS Blanket Drive, it’s essential to raise awareness about the resources available for those struggling with mental health.
If you or someone you know is experiencing thoughts of suicide or needs support, please reach out to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (1-800-273-8255) or contact Crisis Text Line by texting “HELLO” to 741741.
This holiday season, let’s come together as a community to make a difference in the lives of those facing mental health challenges. The #EAS Blanket Drive not only provides physical warmth but also serves as a reminder that compassion and support can light up even the darkest moments. Join the Lucas Howard Group in spreading love and awareness during this season of giving.
